FAQ

Coil slitting, answered.

What is the maximum coil size you can slit?

Master coils up to 72″ wide and 60,000 lb, with entry IDs of 20″–28″ and ODs to 80″. Outbound widths run from 1.050″ up to 72″.

What gauge range does the slitter handle?

0.042″ through 0.312″.

What materials can you slit?

Low carbon and HSLA up to 70,000 PSI tensile — in hot rolled, hot rolled pickled & oiled, cold rolled, galvanized, galvannealed, aluminized, and stainless.

Do you stock master coil, and how is it stored?

Yes — thousands of tons of master coil inventory on the floor in Mansfield, Ohio, stored under infrared heat to prevent condensation and rust, ready to slit and ship.

Do you toll slit customer-owned coil?

No. Our slitting runs from Major Metals' own master coil inventory — thousands of tons in stock, slit to your width and ready to ship fast.

What edge condition does your slit coil ship with?

A clean #3 slit edge on both sides of every strip. We trim the mill edges off the master coil during slitting, so no strip ships with an as-rolled mill edge.
